Use the results as a planning check, not a reading verdict
Start with the suggested fit, then look at the specific signals that may change how you teach the text. A passage with an acceptable overall readability score can still contain a few long sentences, dense punctuation, or vocabulary that deserves pre-teaching.
- Paste the text and select Analyze Text.
- Compare independent, partner, and read-aloud fit instead of relying on one number.
- Use spike sentences and vocabulary or decoding load to decide where students may need modeling, chunking, or support.
Readability formulas cannot account for everything that makes a text difficult. Background knowledge, the task students are asked to complete, and whether the text is read independently or aloud still require teacher judgment.
Need help interpreting FKGL, Reading Ease, and the other signals?
The detailed Classroom Text Complexity Analyzer guide explains how to interpret the major results and why a single readability score should not decide text placement by itself.
After checking a text, you can turn its vocabulary into a Word Search Generator activity, a Crossword Generator, or a Cloze Generator.
